Despite very vocal opposition from several areas of the political and entertainment sectors, it seems clear that Paramount is plowing ahead with work to prepare for their unification with Warner Bros. Discovery as it seems likely to be completed in the coming weeks.
Part of that preparation has been the recent reveal of the intended new name for the combined entity that will come out of this union. It will not be some awkward hyphen or mashed term, but instead, simply “Skydance.”

Skydance is intended to be a broad umbrella term for the corporate entity about to emerge, with Paramount and Warner Bros. keeping their individual identities, logos and more, intact underneath the name. Also highlighted in this announcement were the likes of CNN, HBO Max, Paramount+ and DC Comics, demonstrating perhaps more clearly than ever the reach that David Ellison has achieved over the past several years in her ferocious buying spree.
As part of the deal, Ellison has made big promises about the slate of film releases and film productions, with year-based timestamps on these goals. However, as many will recall, other companies have made similar promises of productivity, increased margins in all manner of areas, and more, when it comes to massive mergers like this.
We’ll have to see if Ellison’s new Skydance megacorp can meet their targets, as well as if they’ll be punished at all for failing to meet them.
