Warning: Spoilers for season two of Loki

Season two of Loki finally landed on Disney+ last week, and there was a new character to delight Indiana Jones fans. Ke Huy Quan, who’s known for playing Short Round and Data, recently returned to acting with his Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

In Loki, Quan plays a character named Ouroboros, a time mechanic who’s been tucked away deep inside the TVA. Ouroboros manages to be both humorous and charming and almost immediately understands the confusing time travel programs. He quickly joins the heroes Loki and Mobius as they try to remedy Lok’s time-slipping. The branching timelines are affecting the ouroboros, a kind of time loom. Ouroboros, the character, has a plan to fix it and Loki’s problem but time is limited even in the TVA.

According to the show’s head writer Eric Martin, Quan has been a delight on set. Martin said, “The first day Ke came, he hadn’t started yet. He just wanted to visit the set and say hi. That’s who Ke is, he wants to know everybody. And we got to talking and had lunch together and it was just this nice lunch talking about his character and getting to hear him dig in and get under the skin of that character and how he was going to approach it.” Martin added that Quan brought a layer of sweet humanity to the role.

Quan is just as excited for his MCU role as the fans. Quan said, “I’ve been a fan of the Marvel Universe for a long, long time, and I always fantasized about joining the MCU family but that was only a fantasy that I didn’t think it would ever come true, it was a distant dream of mine. I watched Loki season 1 on Disney Plus and I thought it was one of the most creative and just best-looking cinematography, costume, production design; everything was just top-notch. It was one of the most creative shows that I’ve ever seen in a long, long time.”

Later on, Quan received a call from Kevin Feige, asking him to be part of the MCU. Quan was driving at the time and became so teary-eyed, he had to pull off to the side of the road. Quan said that the call meant the world to him.
