The first five episodes of Ahsoka are out on Disney+. The series is incredible so far, doing a great job of bringing these iconic animated characters into live-action. In the first two episodes, however, fans started to notice some familiar things that could be tied back to the Star Wars video game, Knights Of The Old Republic. While the game itself is considered part of Legends, elements could be made canon. These references could either be fun easter eggs or an effort by Lucasfilm to start integrating aspects of the game into current Star Wars canon.

The Eye Of Sion (Darth Sion)

One of the more obvious KOTOR callbacks is the Eye Of Sion. The Eye Of Sion is currently a flagship that will set out to the new galaxy where Thrawn may be hiding. The Eye Of Sion shares a name with the Sith Lord from Knights Of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords: Darth Sion. Darth Sion was a Sith Mauraduer during the Old Sith Wars. He fought until he was struck down, but he didn’t die; instead, he discovered that by utilizing his pain, hatred, an anger, he could achieve immortality at the cost of all-consuming agony. His creepy-looking eye is his defining characteristic, and could’ve been a reference for the Eye of Sion.

Another callback to KOTOR is the use of HK-class assassin droids. One was sent with Shin to retrieve the star map from Sabine Wren, and Ahsoka encountered them twice (taking them down pretty easily both times). They were also traced back to the planet of Corellia. The HK-class assassin droids could be a callback to HK-47, the droid companion who serves you on the Ebon Hawk, in both KOTOR games.

Star Maps

In Knights Of The Old Republic, the player is tasked with finding four star maps. These maps drew upon the dark side of the Force, and each map indicated the precise location of the Star Forge. Once the Rakatan empire fell, however, the information the maps contained was lost. Over time, the maps repaired themselves, and in order to reach the Star Forge, the user would have to have every star map in order to reveal the location. The star map we see in Ahsoka bears a striking resemblance to the ones in KOTOR. During the premiere, Baylan references a great power in another galaxy, which some believe could be referring to the Star Forge. The was a huge structure that was able to produce starships at an alarmingly fast rate. If true, this could explain how Palpatine created a fleet so fast in The Rise Of Skywalker

The Rakatan

Finally, in the premiere, Morgan references an ancient alien race. This could be the Rakatan, a race of aliens who were seen in the game. Their race was the one to originally create the star maps as well. Star Wars does not have a shortage of aliens, so this could really refer to anyone, but with all the other KOTOR references, this one just makes sense.

Dave Filoni is a fan of Knights Of The Old Republic, so these references aren’t surprising. Whether or not they’re just fun easter eggs, or something more, remains to be seen. Hopefully, as the series goes on, fans will get to learn more. The game is still widely popular, and the references make sense, with Lucasfilm trying to integrate aspects of the game into their current Star Wars vision. A remake of the game was in development for a while, but the current fate of the remake is unknown. While the game is considered Legends, it would make sense for elements of it to be brought into canon, and it seems that Ahsoka might be the show to do that.
