What Are The Other Orders In The Grand Army Of The Republic?

“Execute Order 66.” One of the most important and chilling lines in any Star Wars film, book, or TV Show.

We have all seen the impact of this command from every different angle in Revenge of the Sith, The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, Fallen Order, and numerous other books and comicsand it never really gets any easier to watch not only the betrayal, but the internal conflict that many of the clones felt. But if this is the 66th ‘Contingency Order for the Grand Army of the Republic’, what are the others?

Order 4: "In the event of the Supreme Commander being incapacitated, overall, GAR command shall fall to the vice chair of the Senate until a successor is appointed or alternative authority identified.”

Makes sense. If your head honcho gets taken out, you need a contingency plan until a new leader gets put into place. So far, so good.

Order 5: "In the event of the Supreme Commander (Chancellor) being declared unfit to issue orders, the Chief of the Defense Staff shall assume GAR command and form a strategic cell of senior officers until a successor is appointed or alternative authority identified.”

Well you wouldn’t want a Space Caesar, I suppose, but with Palpatine’s dark side powers and political machinations, it would have been interesting to see how this could have been brought into action.

Order 6: “Troopers should dispose of all communicators immediately.”

This one is technically non-canon, as it came from a comic run on the LEGO Star Wars website. However, it does make sense to avoid the clankers getting a hold of Clone communicators, which would enable them listen in and track enemy movements.

Order 37: “Capture of a single wanted individual through the mass arrest and threatened execution of a civilian population. Follow-up directives include scenarios for body disposal of civilian casualties and suppression of communications.”

Now we’re getting a glimpse of the real Empire peeking from under the hood of the dying Republic. This is basically state-mandated murder and tyranny.

Order 64: ???

This one exists…but we don’t know what it is. When the clones killed Durge, a trooper wonders to his companion whether they are up to Order 64 or 65.

Order 65: "In the event of either a majority in the Senate declaring the Chancellor to be unfit to issue orders, or the Security Council declaring him or her to be unfit to issue orders, and an authenticated order being received by the GAR, commanders shall be authorized to detain the Supreme Commander, with lethal force if necessary, and command of the GAR shall fall to the acting Chancellor until a successor is appointed or alternative authority identified."

This feels a little like what Mace Windu tried to institute upon going to arrest the Chancellor. Unfortunately, by this point, it was closing the gate after the Eopie had bolted.

Order 66: "In the event of Jedi officers acting against the interests of the Republic, and after receiving specific orders verified as coming directly from the Supreme Commander (Chancellor), GAR commanders will remove those officers by lethal force, and command of the GAR will revert to the Supreme Commander (Chancellor) until a new command structure is established.”

Don’t think we need to go over this one…

Order 151: Not officially an Order of the GAR, as it was brought into being after the rise of the Empire. This was one of Palpatine’s contingency plans for if Vader became too powerful, or presented a real and present danger to the Emperor himself…pew pew.

Good soldiers follow orders, after all.
