In regards to the intricate depth of Star Wars, one of the most popular franchises in the Science Fiction genre, have you ever wondered what it was like being a crew member of a war machine like the AT-TE?

Now, you’re probably wondering what is an AT-TE. Well, an AT-TE (All Terrain Tactical Enforcer), also called a Six Legs, is one of the toughest and most ingenious pieces of machinery ever made under the authority of the Galactic Republic in affiliation with Rothana Heavy Engineering. Meant to be used during war times, the AT-TE was a metallic 6-legged and heavily armed Walker that could go up to 60kph and even climb walls.

However, the ingeniosity of the Walker’s design came mainly from the inside. This heavy Walker was composed, in addition to the cockpit, of two spacious interior cabins, capable of containing up to 10 troopers each. The latter were linked by a narrow passage connected through the power system. In battle, this metallic beast was the stage of 7 crew members who, in total synchronicity, worked together to successfully operate its system.

While one pilot managed the legs of the ship, one spotter picked targets and assigned them to five different gunners. Amongst them, there was the main gunner whose cabin was built into the cannon of the most powerful weapon the Walker possessed, the Projectile Cannon, making him the most vulnerable member of the ship. Then, the four other gunners were on the back, the low front, as well as on the sides of the Walker which allowed for the protection of any blind spots with the use of the Antipersonnel Laser Cannons. Additionally, AT-TEs also carried engineers who would conduct maintenance duties to keep the machine working in case of damage.

Moreover, the Walker was designed to be able to carry crew members through space. For that to happen, when the hatches were sealed, the cabins could be pressurized and thanks to its life support system, the Walker supplied the cabins with fresh air which was recycled from the outside. Also, as its name suggested, the AT-TE was suitable for moving through all kinds of surfaces, vertical and horizontal, thanks to its legs which were equipped with tractor-field generators and terrain sensors.

According to its history, the Clone Wars event was when the AT-TE became the most popular as it was the principal battle tank used by the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic. At that time, this walker served during many conflicts due to its versatility and it was used on large-scale and smaller-scale operations such as the rescue of Rotta the Huttlet during the Battle of Tech.
