Morgan Elsbeth is an interesting character. We first met her during season 2 of The Mandalorian appropriately titled, “The Jedi”. This was also where Ahsoka Tano was first introduced to live-action. Ahsoka and Morgan fight each other, Ahsoka with her lightsabers, and Morgan with the pure beskar spear. Ahsoka asks her the famous question- “Where is Grand Admiral Thrawn?”Ahsoka wins, and successfully wins the pure beskar spear for Din. This is the last we see of Elsbeth for a while until Ahsoka brings her back. Not much is known about this character, besides the fact she had Thrawn as her mentor and is currently looking for the Grand Admiral. Hopefully, as the series continues, we will get to learn more about this mysterious woman.

Morgan Elsbeth is played by Diana Lee Inosanto. Elsbeth is a human female and a Nightsister, a coven of witches, native to the planet of Dathomir in the Outer Rim territories. She has access to the magick of the Nightsisters and is signified by its green color. During The Clone Wars, in 20 BBY, General Grievous went to Dathomir and slaughtered the Nightsisters, in retaliation for what Mother Talzin did to Separatist leader, Count Dooku. Elsbeth was left as one of the only survivors, and this pushed her to strengthen the Imperial Navy, during the reign of the Galactic Empire, by plundering various worlds for their natural resources. During this time, Grand Admiral Thrawn was her mentor. She also acquired a beskar spear, and became proficient in wielding it, as we saw in her fight against Ahsoka. By 9 ABY she became the local magistrate of Calodan located on the forest planet of Corvus. She led the local regime and hired ex-military mercenary Lang, as her enforcer, and leader of the army.

After the events of “The Jedi”, Elsbeth is captured by the New Republic, for acting as an imperial sympathizer. She winds up in a cell on a New Republic ship, where she is on her way to her trial. The ship was eventually attacked by mercenaries she hired, Baylan Skoll and his apprentice, Shin Hati. The two successfully rescued her, and Elsbeth revealed that Ahsoka had knowledge of Thrawn.

Once rescued, Morgan, Baylan, and Shin all head to the planet of Arcana, which was a Nightsister stronghold. They are also joined by Inquisitor Marrok, another mercenary. All of them witness the destruction that Ahsoka caused while looking for the star map. Shin Hati is dispatched to find the star map that is currently in the possession of Sabine Wren. The two duel and Shin is successful in retrieving the map. She brings the map back to Morgan, and all of them travel to the planet of Seatos, where Baylan discovered an ancient mapping mechanism. It was built by ancient people from a distant galaxy. After putting the map on the mechanism, she was able to access it using her Nightsister magick. The map expands and is reminiscent of those seen in the Knights Of The Old Republic video game. The map leads them to the planet of Peridea. Baylan didn’t know this planet existed, as he only heard legends about it. He warns Morgan that the path ahead may be clouded, but she insists that she can hear Thrawn calling her across time and space.

After she deactivates the map, we are introduced to the Eye of Scion. A starship that was constructed under the command of Elsbeth, with the sole intent of traveling to Peridea. She eventually reports, via holo-comm, to her three mercenaries that are stationed on the ship, that the ship's final hyperdrive has begun installation. Skoll, who is one of the mercenaries, voiced his concerns about Ahsoka. Morgan reiterates that nothing could prevent their journey.

Morgan Elsbeth has come a long way since we were first introduced to her. She will play a central part in finding Grand Admiral Thrawn, and bringing him back from wherever he may be. She is someone you wouldn’t want to mess with, making her an interesting foe for Ahsoka.
