With so many movies being released every week, it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of which movie you saw this year and which movie you saw, say, 20 years ago. If you’re ready to feel, old let’s take a look at 10 movies that are turning 20 in 2023!

This Disney movie was based on a YA novel by the same name and saw Shia LaBeouf step off the small screen and onto the big screen. After 20 years, this film and the novel are still loved by fans of all ages.

9. X2: X-Men United

This is arguably the best film in the X-Men franchise as it felt closer to the source material than the other films. Filled with great acting and phenomenal action sequences, this film still holds up two decades after its release.

Who doesn’t love this movie? If you were alive when it came out, chances are you still quote it to this day. This film introduced us to a new under-the-sea story that focused 100% on the animals and led to a really great sequel!

7. Freaky Friday

This movie shaped many of us millennials when it was first released. Lindsay Lohan was the IT girl at the time, and Jamie Lee Curtis was making her way back into the spotlight. The film was a genuine blast, and it has even sparked conversations about a possible sequel! Sign me up!

6. The Lizzie McGuire Movie

“Sing to me, Paolo!” There is not enough space to talk about the impact that this film had on young millennial girls when it was first released. The film featured the best concert sequence in a Disney film EVER (sorry, A Goofy Movie), and it finally gave us the kiss we had been waiting for! This film also jump-started Hilary Duff’s film and music career.

5. Elf

This is arguably the best Christmas movie ever. I honestly didn’t realize that this movie was already 20 years old until I was putting this list together. The writers created a film that is fun for every member of the family, and it is one of Will Ferrell’s best comedies to date. It is also one of the most quotable movies out there!

4. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl

This movie will forever live in the hearts of all Disney fans. It is the film that introduced us to Captain Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swan, and Will Turner and also launched one of Disney’s most successful film franchises of all time. I would also argue that it is one of the most rewatchable installments of the franchise.

3. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

There are a lot of really great rom-coms out there, but this one will forever be the best in my opinion. This film introduced us to one of the best rom-com duos ever, Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Don’t forget the yellow dress!

2. Freddy Vs. Jason

This movie made horror film history by pitting together two of the most well-known horror icons of all time. It grossed more than $116 million and remains a favorite of horror fans. The film was cheesy, had hilarious graphics, and featured the best fight scene ever in a horror film

1. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

The number one spot on this list could only go to one film. Currently the final installment of The Lord of the Rings franchise, this film grossed more than $1 billion at the box office and went on to win 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. While the film is more than 3 hours long, that hasn’t stopped fans from rewatching it over and over again over the last two decades. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the extended 4-hour and 20-minute version of the film is returning to select Regal and Cinemark theaters on April 13!
