After the success of The Ring of Power, everyone who has a slice of The Lord of The Rings IP wants a piece of its popularity. The War of The Rohirrim is an anime prequel set 183 years before Peter Jackson’s The Lord of The Rings movies. The film follows Helm Hammerhand, one of the characters in The Lord of The Rings Online and The Lord of The Rings: The Third Age video games. It is rumored that Miranda Otto is returning as Galadriel and British actor Brian Cox is voicing the lead role.

The War of the Rohirrim was due to come out in theatres in April 2024 via New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. The Embracer Group is working in conjunction with Warner Bros on this project after they acquired Middle Earth enterprises. However, the fact that three major companies are working on The War of the Rohirrim hasn’t stopped it from feeling the effects of the SAG/AFTRA strike and its release has been put back to December 2024.

This delay might not be bad for the movie. A winter release is less competitive than going against the inevitable rush of spring and summer superhero movies. It also avoids a clash with Dune: Part Two which hits cinemas in March 2024.

Although fans will be disappointed about having to wait an extra eight months for The War of the Rohirrim, there is still great support for the strike. Audiences see the need for all contributors to be paid fairly for their talents.
