Ever since I got AMC A-List, which, if you love movies and have an AMC theater near you, is absolutely worth the monthly price, I have made it a goal to see a certain number of movies each year. Last year, my goal was 40, and I saw 42. This year, my goal was 50. However, I started to slack a bit, and only saw 45, which is still more than last year, so I’m happy with it. 2025 was another great year for movies, and my top movie did not change once. I thought it would be fun to do a list of my 10 favorites from the year.

10. Predator: Badlands

Another later addition to this list. I’ll be honest and admit that I have never seen a Predator film before, but this made me want to watch all of them. The dynamic between Dek and Thia is the best part of the movie. It also reminds us that even the toughest of people need help sometimes, and that it is okay to accept it.

9. Paddington In Peru

How could you not love Paddington Bear? This movie has Paddinton and his (human) family venturing to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy. Things never go right for this little bear, and he finds himself in a bit of a pickle while trying to find his Aunt Lucy. While this is not on the level of Paddington 2, it’s still an adorable movie, with the best bear and his adorable human family, where they show us that family, of any kind, matters the most.

8. 28 Years Later

This is the first movie in a three-part trilogy within the 28 Days Later franchise. A father and son venture out for the first time together to go and find resources for their community. The son, however, has an ulterior motive to find a doctor for his sick mother. Eventually, he brings his mother outside the community, where the two have to fight various infected along the way. The Doctor is played by Ralph Fiennes, who steals the show. This movie had the right amount of horror and emotion and was a great continuation in the series.

7. Freaky Tales

This was definitely the surprise of the year. It starred Pedro Pascal and consisted of three different stories that eventually intertwine with each other. It was bloody, violent, and funny. It had the perfect 80s aesthetic, with plenty of nazis dying. I didn’t expect it to like it as much as I did, but I’m glad it was on my top 10.

6. Mickey 17

This is the newest film from Korean director Bong Joon Ho. It starred Robert Pattinson twice. There were a few movies this year that featured actors playing two different versions of themselves, which was definitely an interesting trend. It was crazy to see all the real-world similarities, especially later in the movie. Bong Joon Ho is one of my favorite directors, and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

5. One Battle After Another

This is one of the latest additions to my top 10, because it came out later in the year. This is Leonardo DiCaprio's best role, and Chase Infinit’s debut in a movie. She absolutely stole the show, or movie, in this case. Benicio Del Toro’s character is the best part of the movie. It’s another film in this list that is quite timely to the events in our world today.

4. The Fantastic Four: First Steps

I grew up with the Fantastic Four movies that came out in the early 2000s, so I have nostalgia for those. I will be the first to admit that they’re not good. This rendition, however, which is now part of the MCU, is incredible. It’s great to see Johnny portrayed as smart, and not just a dumb womanizer. It showed the importance of family and how coming together can sometimes save the world.

3. Superman

I’ll be the first to admit that Superman was never a superhero I liked. I do, however, like James Gunn, and knew this movie would at least be entertaining. I was surprised at how much I loved this movie. We get a Superman who isn’t afraid to be vulnerable. The soundtrack is amazing, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor was an excellent casting choice. It also parallels real-world issues currently happening. I am so happy that I enjoyed this as much as I did, and it will be a favorite for many years to come.

2. Thunderbolts*

I know there are a lot of people who have Marvel fatigue, rightfully so, but this year was a great year for Marvel movies. Thunderbolts* was a fresh story in the MCU with characters that have been overlooked. I am a bit biased, however, as Bucky Barnes is my favorite Marvel character, and this movie featured a lot of him. What started as a group of people brought together by a job eventually became a family at the end. It also did a great job of tackling mental health and showing that it’s not weak to ask those around you for help.

1. Sinners

This is hands down the best movie of the year, and nothing else came close to it. Ryan Coogler is a genius, and Michael B. Jordan stole the show. Even though it was about vampires, it was also about love, loss, and racism. The music scene in the juke joint is one of the coolest movie scenes of all time, and it weaves years of music together. It's absolutely beautiful, and if somehow you haven’t seen this movie, then put it at the top of your watchlist.

2025 for movies was great. It gave us many original films, while also refreshing familiar IPs. There were a few movies that had an actor playing more than one role, which was cool, but also a bit weird that there were so many this year. Either way, if you haven’t seen any of these movies, I highly recommend them, because you will have a great time! I am excited to see what movies 2026 brings us.
