Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter series is set to find new life as an animated series. The new series John Carter of Mars is set to be revealed with a sneak peek at San Diego Comic-Con. The series is being developed by Michael Kogge, who runs Burroughs’ estate. Previous incarnations of John Carter on film include the Disney flop John Carter in 2012 and a 2009 direct-to-video film Princess of Mars.
Kogge shared his excitement for the upcoming series in an official statement, “In this era of incredible animation, with shows like Castlevania, Blood of Zeus and Twilight of the Gods pushing the genre of fantasy action-adventure to new heights, there couldn’t be a better time for the Martian saga of John Carter and Princess Dejah Thoris to be told through bold, ground-breaking animation.” Kogge, who WME and Felker Toczek represent, has already written an audio series based on the Martian novels, which is being recorded with voice stars including Ian McDiarmid, Bruce Boxleitner and Sean Patrick Flannery.” This isn’t the first time Kogge has dived into the character’s world. His previous work includes an audio series based on the novels.
