Adam Driver’s attitude towards Star Wars is a bit shaky at times. Usually, the 41-year-old actor prefers smaller, more artistic projects, so one could argue that he was quite relieved when he could leave Star Wars and his role as Kyle Ren behind, after the release of The Rise of Skywalker.
But while being on press tour for the Jim Jarmusch-directed movie Father Mother Sister Brother, Driver revealed that he and Steven Soderbergh toyed around with the idea of making a Kyo Ren-centric Star Wars movie.
“I always was interested in doing another ‘Star Wars,’” Driver said. “I had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen [Kennedy] had reached out. I always said: ‘With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second.’ I loved that character and loved playing him.”
Driver and Sonderbergh worked together with Rebecca Blunt to craft the story, which would have taken place after the events of Episode IX, with Ren being on a redemption arc to become Ben Solo again.

When they first pitched the idea to Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Cary Beck at Lucasfilm, they got a positive response:
“They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it.”
Together with Scott Z. Burns, they created the script for the movie that would have been called The Hunt for Ben Solo.
But when they presented their work to Disney CEO Bob Iger and Alan Berman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, their response was less enthusiastic:
“They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.”, Driver said, and Sonderbergh added, “I really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I’m just sorry the fans won’t get to see it.”
According to Driver, the film would have been “handmade and character-driven,” and the script was “one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of.” His benchmark for making the movie was The Empire Strikes Back, because this is the “standard” of what a Star Wars movie should be.”
It would have been fascinating to see what had happened to Kylo Ren/Ben Solo after his seemingly death at the Battle of Exegol, as - to quote Luke Skywalker, “No one’s ever really gone.”
