The long and winding road to an adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone can add another event to its lengthy timeline.

While the film is still set to premiere on January 15, 2027, the novel’s author has recently chosen to publicly distance herself from the project through a series of posts on TikTok. Involved throughout the entire process of the film’s creation as a co-writer of the screenplay and an executive producer, Adeyemi now says “There is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work… I have not seen the film, and I will not watch it. It’s been painful holding this back from you all.” Her TikTok messages also show she has blocked one of the film’s principal actors, Amandla Stenberg, who is playing the female lead.

Why this has happened is unclear, though the film had little to no reception at CinemaCon in April 2026, and reshoots also took place in early 2026. What Stenberg has to do with these events is also a mystery, but the coming weeks may provide further insights.

Director Gina Prince-Bythewood, known for films like The Woman King, might also be involved, though they have been radio silent for months while deep in work on Blood and Bone.
