2027 marks the 50th anniversary of the film that started it all and to commemorate this milestone Lucasfilm will not only bring A New Hope (well, technically just Star Wars) back into cinemas and hold a little completly-sold-out celebration in Los Angeles, but also set up an all new exhibition, togehter with The Franklin Institute: Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy will make its world premiere in Philadelphia, Pensilvania, on February 13, 2027, before embarking on a five-year tour across North America.
Spanning 18,000 square feet, the exhibition will feature more than 70 authentic artifacts from the Star Wars saga, many of which have never been displayed publicly. Visitors can get an up-close look at iconic screen-used props and costumes, including Darth Vader’s armor, Darth Maul’s lightsaber hilt, and beloved characters such as Grogu, R2-D2, and C-3PO. The collection also includes a full-sized speeder bike and original props from the Andor series.

“Star Wars created a cultural landscape that spans decades and delivers massive, undeniable global appeal,” says Larry Dubinski, President and CEO of The Franklin Institute. “Its influence extends far beyond cinema—shaping entertainment, culture, technology, and business, while redefining how stories are created, experienced, and shared across generations. The Franklin Institute is excited to put Philadelphia once again at the center of a major cultural moment with another blockbuster world premiere exhibition in 2027.”
Designed by The Franklin Institute in collaboration with MDSX, Lucasfilm, and Disney Consumer Products, the exhibition is set to combine traditional displays with immersive environments and RFID-powered interactive technology, allowing guests to experience a personalized journey through the galaxy far, far away.
Beyond showcasing legendary props, Star Wars: The Experience explores the artistry and innovation behind the franchise, including costume design, sound creation, visual effects, gaming, fan art, and the groundbreaking work of the SFX wizards at Industrial Light & Magic, tracing the evolution of filmmaking from practical effects to cutting-edge digital technology.
Tickets for the exhibition aren’t on sale yet, but those interested can sign up for news and updates directly on The Franklin Institute's website.
But even before that, fans can get a sneak preview of what to expect from Star Wars: The Experience: Attendees at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con will get an early look at concept renderings and behind-the-scenes details from the exhibition, which has been in development for more than four years. The panel will be hosted by Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rebels, and Tales of the Jedi.
The Making of Star Wars: The Experience will take place on Friday, July 24, 2026, 4:00 PM- 5:00 PM (PT), in Room 7AB.
