Avengers: Endgame (2009), the epic conclusion to the initial phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, sometimes referred to as the Infinity Saga, was first released in 2019 and became one of the highest grossing films of all time. The Marvel Cinematic Universe and its surviving characters have since moved on and new characters and storylines have been introduced.

However, with the upcoming release of the latest Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel decided to theatrically re-release Avengers: Endgame for a limited theatrical run with some added post-credit scenes that are intended to create some narrative tissue between the events of Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Doomsday, specifically dealing with the conclusion of Steve “Captain America” Roger’s storyline, which might not have been so conclusive after all.

The re-release of Avengers: Endgame put the epic superhero film back on top of the box office, reclaiming its title as the highest grossing movie of all time, surpassing the previous record-holder, the science-fiction epic film, Avatar (2009). Avengers: Endgame has currently grossed a combined total (since 2019) of $2.925 billion, edging out Avatar, which grossed $2.923 billion since its 2009 release and subsequent re-release. Worldwide, Avengers: Endgame has grossed $126 million in total since its recent re-release.
