Babylon 5, the well-respected 1990s science fiction show about the titular futuristic space station created by J. Michael Straczynski, has long been the subject of much discussion among its fans about a possible resurgence. Much of the speculation about the series, which ended in 1998 with little success with further projects, has centered around a potential reboot of the series, which creator J. Michael Straczynski wants.

However, the development of the reboot has been beset by various delays, including the current writer’s strike. As it turns out, though, not only are fans possibly getting a reboot of their beloved series, but it was recently announced that Warner Brothers would be releasing a new Babylon 5 project in the meantime, in the form of an animated movie entitled Babylon 5: The Road Home.

RELATED:

According to IMDB.com, the synopsis of the movie, as well as the trailer that was recently released, will feature the show’s lead character, John Sheridan, President of the Interstellar Alliance (reprised by Bruce Boxleitner), becoming the latest character in a franchise to enter the multiverse: John Sheridan finds himself transported through multiple timelines and alternate realities in a quest to find his way back home.

The animated movie will feature nearly all of the surviving characters from the original series, and their respective actors and actresses will be reprising their roles, except those cast members who have “passed beyond the rim” since the end of the series, which, sadly, currently includes a fairly sizable amount of the original cast. These roles, however, have been recast for the movie. The movie is scheduled to be premiered at Comic-Con in July and released on August 15, 2023, on most digital platforms, as well as 4K and Blu-Ray.  Pre-orders are currently available.
