Battlefield 6 may be giving Call of Duty a run for its money based on the numbers that attended this weekend’s open beta. The open beta for Battlefield 6 saw an impressive 521,079 concurrent players. The best record of Call of Duty was 491,670. However, there are a couple caveats. The Call of Duty numbers come from both Black Ops 6 and Warzone. The beta for Battlefield 6 was free, so it could be that bored gamers were trying something new with no intent on purchasing the game later on.
According to IGN, there were as many players sitting in the settings menu as there were playing the game. One player attested that they were sitting in the lobby, talking to friends over voice chat the whole time. A second beta for the game is planned for Thursday, August 14, through Sunday, August 18. These numbers aren’t great news for EA’s Call of Duty franchise, which in the past has typically dominated the holiday market. The release date for Black Ops 7 still has not been revealed, possibly to avoid competing with all the attention on Battlefield 6 at the moment. Meanwhile, the new Battlefield will be released on October 10, 2025.
