Ubisoft Leaks News That A ‘Far Cry’ Show Is In Development At FX

A series adaptation of Ubisoft’s Far Cry may be in the works at FX after an article on the company’s main news page was mistakenly published, screenshotted, and taken down. It revealed that the showrunner of the series will be Noah Hawley, with Rob Mac as the star. The publication was an error on Ubisoft’s part, whether a timer was set incorrectly or someone hit 'publish' instead of 'save'; it was an error that Ubisoft quickly corrected, as the page was taken down very quickly, and some evidence on the Far Cry subreddit was scrubbed. It is currently unknown whether the news will be reposted at a later date or if the leak was a marketing tactic.
Should this information remain true, as the leak portrays, Hawley and Mac are interesting choices to take on the Far Cry universe. Hawley is best known for his work on the show Alien: Earth, Fargo, several episodes of Bones, and Lucy in the Sky (2019), among other projects. Mac is best known on the acting side for his long-running role as Ronald “Mac” Macdonald in the sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Other credits include Ian Grimm in Mythic Quest, Mac in Abbott Elementary, a TVA agent in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), and Officer Oscar Hunt in Fargo.

Far Cry is a franchise of first-person shooter games, both main series and spin-offs. Each game is connected by the universe, but is generally not connected plot-wise, maintaining a theme of lawless lands and needing to team up with the side opposing the group in power to restore balance. The most recent installment to the main franchise, Far Cry 6 (2021), takes the player to the sovereign state of Yara, focusing on protagonist Dani Rojas (Sean Rey, Nisa Gunduz) and the fight against dictator Antón Castillo (Giancarlo Esposito). It is available to play through Ubisoft Connect, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Stadia, and the PlayStation 4 and 5.
