One of the most successful sitcoms of the 90s is returning with a new star, a new creative team, a new network, and a new look! A single-cam reboot of Coach is currently in the works, with Ty Burrell set to star!
Starring Craig T. Nelson as Hayden Fox, Coach ran for 200 episodes between 1989 and 1997 on ABC. Nelson won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series in 1992. A revival of the series entered development in 2015 and even received a 13-episode order from NBC. However, only a pilot was filmed, and the series never got picked up due to creative differences and mixed reception toward the pilot, which never aired and has yet to resurface. The new reboot will be developed by Daniel Libman and Matthew Libman, who are best known for the Peacock series Mr. Throwback. While the original Coach was a multi-camera sitcom, the reboot will be single-camera. Examples of popular single-camera sitcoms include The Office, Arrested Development, Parks & Recreation, and Modern Family.
Ty Burrell is best known for his role as Phil Dunphy in the long-running ABC sitcom Modern Family. A fan favorite, Burrell’s acting received significant acclaim from critics and earned 8 consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (the most of any cast member) and won two. Other prominent roles in Burrell’s career include Mr. Hector Peabody in Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Jean Pierre Napoleon in Muppets Most Wanted, and Bailey in Finding Dory. In 2024, Burrell was set to start in an original ABC sitcom titled Forgive & Forget, which centered on a party-loving father diagnosed with Alzheimer's who reconnects with his son. Despite a pilot being ordered, the show didn’t move forward primarily due to concerns with its subject matter and tone. In addition to starring in the Coach reboot, Burrell will executive produce and write episodes alongside the Libman Brothers.
