The Ahsoka Season Two teaser trailer wasn’t the only Star Wars news to drop on the first night of D23 2026! Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy took to the same stage hosting the D23 Studio Showcase Panel, and revealed a considerable amount about Star Wars: Starfighter.

Unfortunately, some parts of those reveals remain private, with Disney hunting down recordings of the clips and sizzle reel material shown exclusively to the convention audience. What is able to be discussed openly, though, is both the new plot synopsis, and Ryan Gosling’s sick new jacket.

Gosling’s character name has been revealed to be Kade Auberon, and per StarWars.com and other locations: “In Starfighter, when a cynical rogue is confronted by his mysterious past, he is hurled into a dangerous adventure across the galaxy that puts him on a crash course with destiny.” Some fans might recall another man with the first name Cade, who was a cynical rogue with a mysterious past which he had to confront while facing his destiny in a future era, and that man was Cade Skywalker.

However, unlike some situations where Legends characters and events have been transposed directly into the canon, sometimes into different eras compared to when they were first introduced in Legends, this is almost certainly just a source of inspiration and a nod from creators to in-the-know fans. Much like how Jacen Syndulla is a nod to Jacen Solo, without many other traits to link the two, we shouldn’t start speculating that Kade is somehow connected to the Skywalker blood lineage.

Aside from this reveal, Gosling also showed off the back of a jacket with potential significance to his character. Made of black fabric with white design details in faux-spray-paint style, it shows an upside down Rebel Alliance Starbird with two crossed blaster rifles beneath. This very piratical symbol (the inverted Starbird makes for a somewhat skull-like icon) makes us wonder if Kade’s past involves the overtly criminal as a pirate, or if he ran with a gang who he eventually separated from because of their drift deeper into illegality.

Whether those convention-exclusive clips and more will see the light of day anytime soon is anyone’s guess, but regardless, with less than a year to go, the hype train for Starfighter is slowly leaving the station to begin its journey into Star Wars’ 50th anniversary year.
