Darth Vader’s lightsaber from his fateful duel with Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back will be auctioned on November 12 and is expected to fetch at least $1 million. In July, Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber from the same Cloud City duel was sold for a whopping $3.75 million, making it the most expensive Star Wars prop ever sold. Darth Vader’s lightsaber from The Empire Strikes Back was used again in Return of the Jedi. This is the same lightsaber used in the famous duel that led to Luke’s severed hand and the unforgettable revelation that Darth Vader was Luke’s father. Vader’s “I am your father” confession became one of the most iconic and stunning twists in cinematic history.
Vader’s hilt was custom-built with a modified vintage camera flash handle. This lightsaber is one of more than two dozen screen-used Star Wars props auctioned at Heritage Auctions' Ultimate Star Wars Auction. Lightsabers used by Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in Revenge of the Sith will also be up for auction and are expected to fetch a decent amount. The auction will also feature Boba Fett’s carbine blaster from The Empire Strikes Back, and a TIE-fighter pilot helmet from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
