David Jonsson Assumes The Mantle Of T'Challa II In 'Black Panther 3'

At San Diego Comic Con, Ryan Coogler has revealed Black Panther 3, and a new king of Wakanda approaches. David Jonsson has been cast as the son of T’Challa, introduced at the end of Wakanda Forever. Jonsson is coming off of two films, last year’s The Long Walk and 2024’s Alien: Romulus, that achieved acclaim and success. Black Panther 3 is planned for a December 15, 2028 release, and is being filmed entirely on larger celluloid film in a first for the MCU. Several cast members from the previous two movies are returning, alongside the likes of Denzel Washington, who has previously been announced as part of the cast.

Original Black Panther cast member Winston Duke (M’Baku) told Deadline, about his meeting with David Jonsson earlier that day, “I wanted to extend to [Jonsson] the grace that was extended to me. Black Panther was my very first film, and I was invited to create something really cool with a lot of grace, with a lot of safety. I wanted to just let him know that we’re here to support, we’re here to help, we’re here to augment, we’re here to be here for him and for him to do his best work.” We will be looking out for Jonsson in the years to come.
