One of the critical success stories to come from the MCU over the last few years outside of the Avengers storylines and their Disney+ shows notwithstanding, Marvel/Sony’s Spider-man: Into The Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse has proven to be a powerhouse. Even this year with the release of Across The Spider-Verse which gave us a very Empire Strikes Back cliffhanger ending, everyone wants to keep multi-verse stories going. And it appears the comics will be going back into the multi-verse world with a recent announcement of a new series called ‘Edge Of Spider-Verse’ which will bring us a whole host of variants of our favourite web-slinger.

What makes us all that much more excited is Marvel Comics says the first series, which is dropping in February of 2024, will have a variant near and dear to the X-Men as we get Spider-Man-inspired Weapon VIII. This Spider-Man was a part of the same program that brought us Weapon X, more commonly known as Wolverine. From the Marvel Comics team, “We all know who Weapon X is, but who is Weapon VIII?! Find out in a story from writing duo Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing and artist Travel Foreman! In this universe, when Weapon X escapes from his facility, they call on their greatest previous success to get him back...” The series appears to be in good hands with Kelly and Lanzig whose previous comic success includes Guardians Of The Galaxy, Captain America, and a great run with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

This series is also the start of another trip into the multi-verse with new and returning favourites and we can expect all of this to be “building to the biggest Spider-Verse epic in Marvel Comics History”. Marvel Comics has seemed to have found a great thread in storytelling with the Multi-Verse, so here’s hoping that will help translate into the MCU and we can get to the third movie faster.
