Edi Gathegi And Walton Goggins Join The Cast Of 'Miami Vice ‘85'

Hopefully this won’t piss off Green Lantern. It’s officially been confirmed that Saturn Award nominee Edi Gathegi and Emmy nominee Walton Goggins have joined the cast of Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice ‘85!

Miami Vice is a crime series that premiered on NBC in 1984. Centered on police detectives Sonny Crockett (played by Don Johnson) and Rico Tubbs (played by Philip Michael Thomas) the series was known for its emphasis on 80s popular, use of rock and pop music of the time, and sleek visuals. Since its conclusion in 1989, the series has frequently been hailed as one of the greatest television shows of all time. Miami Vice was adapted into a film directed by Michael Mann and starred Colin Farrell as Crockett and Jamie Foxx as Tubbs. While the film received mixed reviews at the time, it has developed a cult following. Miami Vice 85’ will be helmed by Joseph Kosinski, who is best known for directing Tron: Legacy, Top Gun: Maverick, and F1. Emmy winning writing Dan Gilroy (Andor) penned the screenplay. Academy Award nominee Austin Butler (Elvis) and Academy Award award winner Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) will play Crockett and Tubbs, respectively. John Leguizamo (The Odyssey), Alden Ehrenreich (Oppenheimer), Camila Morrone (Daisy & the Six), Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl), and Andrew Schultz (Street Fighter) will also appear, with Leguizamo playing the film’s main villain. Claudio Miranda (who is currently working on Star Wars: Starfighter) will act as DP for the film, marking his 7th collaboration with Kosinski.

On film, Walton Goggins is best known for his roles as Captain Chris Mannix in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and Sonny Burch in the Peyton Reed-helmed Marvel Studios film Ant-Man and the Wasp. More prolific on television, Goggins is best known for his roles as Boyd Crowder in Justified, Lee Russell on Vice Principals, Baby Billy Freeman on The Righteous Gemstones, Wade Felton in The Unicorn, Ghoul in Fallout, Rick Hatchett in The White Lotus, and as the voice of Cecil Stedman on Invincible. Frequently praised for his scene stealing performances, Goggins has received three Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Justified and The White Lotus and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Fallout. Throughout his career, Edi Gathegi has played major supporting roles in major films and TV shows, including Laurent in the Twilight Saga, Dr. Jeffrey “Big Love” Cole on House, Darwin in X-Men: First Class, and Matias Solomon on The Blacklist. Starting in 2022, Gathegi was cast in the main role of Dev Ayesa in the third season of Apple TV’s acclaimed sci-fi series For All Mankind, which earned him an Astra TV Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Drama Series. In 2025, Gathegi played Mr. Terrific in James Gunn’s Superman. The character became an instant fan favorite, and Gathegi’s performance received universal critical acclaim. Edi Gathegi will reprise his role in Man of Tomorrow and is rumored to appear in The People vs. Gorilla Grodd.
