The Lord of the Rings fans are feeling the hype as Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring celebrates its 25th anniversary. Now, Empire magazine is diving deep into Middle-Earth in their January issue. The magazine revealed that the cover reunites the four hobbits, played by Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd, with Gandalf, played by Ian McKellen. The cover shows the group with the text from the One Ring surrounding them. In addition to an interview with these five, the issue promises a lookback of making the films with Jackson and his co-writer Philippa Boyens, and a Viggo Mortensen and Sean Bean discussion covering orcs, arrows, and death scenes. The issue will also feature Orlando Bloom and John Rhys-Davies talking about Dwarf beards and fantasy weapons and Cate Blanchett and Liv Tyler discussing elvish, horse-riding, and deleted scenes.
Perhaps the most exciting feature of this new issue is Andy Serkis writing about his continuing work in the franchise. Serkis plays Gollum and will be a major part of the upcoming The Hunt for Gollum movie. Mckellen shared his excitement for the magazine on X. He wrote, “This is more than an anniversary; it’s a chance to unite fans everywhere for ‘One reunion to rule them all.” Subscribers will receive an exclusive cover showing the four hobbits standing in the One Ring with the rest of the fellowship appearing above them and Sauron’s eye at the top. Around the edges are golden statutes and thorns, evoking the ever-present struggle between light and darkness in Middle-Earth. The new issue drops on January 15.
