Actor, musician, and filmmaker Finn Wolfhard has confirmed that he is currently writing a screenplay for a new feature film that he intends to direct as well!
During a Q&A on Reddit, one of our writers asked Wolfhard whether he would be interested in scoring his own feature films if he ever directs another. Wolfhard not only expressed interest in scoring a film, but confirmed that he’s writing a screenplay for a film he intends to direct down the line. In the acting world, Finn Wolfhard is best known for his roles as young Richie Tozier in Andy Muschietti’s It duology, Trevor Spengler in the Ghostbusters franchise, and Ziggy Katz in Jesse Eisenberg’s in When You’re Finished Saving the World. Above all, Wolfhard achieved worldwide recognition for his role as Mike Wheeler in all 5 seasons of Stranger Things, which concluded its historic 9-year run back in December. Wolfhard is set to star in the film Crash Land (alongside Critics Choice Award winner and Saturday Night co-star Gabriel LaBelle), Bong Joon Ho’s upcoming animated feature Ally, and a new film from BlackBerry and Tony director Matt Johnson.
In 2020, Wolfhard directed the short film Night Shifts, starring frequent collaborator Billy Bryk. The short received high praise for Wolfhard’s direction and writing, with critics stating the short showcased his potential as a filmmaker. Last year, Wolfhard and Bryk made their joint feature directorial debut with the horror-comedy Hell of a Summer, in which they played Chris and Bobby, respectively. The film received mixed reviews from critics who praised the cast and Wolfhard and Bryk’s direction, but were critical of its tone. Wolfhard is also attached to a potential music biopic about The Replacements and intends to write the screenplay with his father. In addition to working in film and television, Wolfhard is a skilled musician. Last year he released his debut studio album, Happy Birthday to positive reviews and moderate streaming success. He dropped his sophomore studio album, Fire From The Hip, just last week.
