On Monday, The Game Awards announced the nominees for their 2023 awards ceremony. While numerous games were nominated across multiple categories, one game stood out from the rest: Sony’s God of War: RagnarokScoring a whopping 10 nominations, including Best Game Direction, Best Score/Music, and of course, Game of the Year. God of War: Ragnarok certainly came charging out of the gates with a release date of November 9th. Elden Ring is close behind with seven nominations, and it’s worth noting that in every category in which Elden Ring is nominated, God of War: Ragnarok is also nominated.

The number of nominations should come as no surprise, as God of War: Ragnarok sold more physical copies on its UK release day than 2018’s God of War did in a week. It’s also the first cross-gen title released by Sony, available on both the PS4 and PS5.

Another nominee for Game of the Year includes runaway fan favorite Stray, which not only dethroned 2018’s God of War as the highest user-rated game on Steam but also is on its way to becoming the best Steam game of all time (so far of course).

Now that the nominees have been announced, it’s in the hands of fans to vote for their favorites. Will God of War: Ragnarok have an effortless sweep, or will there be an upset? The Video Game Awards will stream live across nearly every platform on December 8th at 6:30 PM CST.
