Prime Video’s latest animated series Hazbin Hotel is one that’s had a very lengthy road from its conception to its streaming debut, and the numbers only speak for themselves, as Amazon has revealed that the series had Prime Video’s largest-ever animated debut. While official streaming numbers are not available (as is to be expected from most streamers these days), this means Hazbin Hotel had a larger audience upon debut in over 240 countries than other Prime Video animated series such as The Legend of Vox MachinaThe Boys: Diabolical and Invincible.

Created by Vivienne Medrano, Hazbin Hotel is a horror-musical-comedy following the Princess of Hell, Charlie (voiced by Erika Henningsen), as she opens a hotel in hopes of rehabilitating residents of Hell so they can get into Heaven. The series started as an indie production by Medrano while still in college, even producing a 22-minute pilot episode which was released on YouTube in 2019, and the series instantly gained a cult following and dedicated fanbase thanks to its quirky characters, profane comedy, and broadway-esque musical numbers. The series was later picked up by A24 and animated by Bento Box Entertainment.

The first four episodes of Hazbin Hotel were released on Prime Video on January 19th, with two episodes released weekly until its season finale on February 2nd.
