Here's Everything Marvel Just Released About Phase Five Of The MCU During San Diego Comic-Con

MCU Phase 5 San Diego Comic-Con

Whoa. The Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con may not have met every expectation, but it sure delivered, even announcing three Phase Six titles with nine other dates to fill. But Phase 5? Phase 5 has a lot of meat in it, as the middle phase of the Multiverse Saga, as it was revealed to be known. Let’s take a look.

First off, Phase 4 ends with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever…or more accurately the unmentioned Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It is set for December, after all. The Halloween special also went unmentioned. But guess what? That means Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which switched places with The Marvels to February 17, 2023, now kicks off Phase 5! That’s right, the first major face-off with the genuine Kang the Conqueror. Quite the way to start it. We’re even getting MODOK here! Footage indicates that Scott is not only podcasting but has become an author with an ego built up that has alienated him from his family, including Cassie. Majors’ Kang is in his comic-accurate armor but has the actor’s natural skin tone.

Next up, in spring 2023, we have Secret Invasion, starring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. Cobie Smulders was confirmed to be returning as Maria Hill. Olivia Colman’s character is confirmed to be an old ally of Nick Fury. Don Cheadle will reprise as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, though his series Armor Wars was strangely absent from the timelines shown, but filming does start this fall.

Then comes May 5, 2023, with the long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, in its original spot, just shifted by three years. The Gunns and the cast reaffirmed that this is the final outing for this team of Guardians. Will Poulter is with them, as he is playing Adam Warlock as previously reported. So is Borat sequel breakout Maria Bakalova, who’s revealed to be voicing Cosmo. And then, in something evoking Tom Hiddleston as Loki in 2013, Chukwudi Iwuji enters in costume in his role as The High Evolutionary.

Echo was confirmed for summer 2023, and it was revealed that it is not the next stop for Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil, as he was teased very blatantly to appear in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law first. It is then set to be immediately followed by the second season of Loki, still within the summer, but before The Marvels, which remains set for July 28. Next up is the Blade reboot, which has been dated for November 3, 2023, while Ironheart is positioned after it with a fall window…though I don’t think that leaves a lot of fall for it. Agatha: House of Harkness is now Agatha: Coven of Chaos, which is scheduled for late 2023 or early 2024. Maybe it’ll end up both by how it releases.

The last item with news that wasn’t a release date, window, or position is the goal of what began in December 2021. It’s Daredevil: Born Again, the official revival of the 2015-18 Daredevil series that originally streamed on Netflix, with Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in their roles once again. Set to premiere in spring 2024, it was the only series to be given an episode count, of 18, which can be pretty typical for a network show nowadays and is a significant increase from its 13-episode Netflix seasons. Next up is the Anthony Mackie-fronted Captain America: New World Order, a title first learned through trademark filings. It is set for release on May 3, 2024. And finally, a team formation closes out Phase 5, as Thunderbolts, complete with an Avengers-styled logo is confirmed, set for a July 26, 2024 release. Despite closing out a phase, it is not the franchise’s last film of the year. The way the year ends and the next phase begins is quite…fantastic.
