House Targaryen will live on! House of the Dragon has officially been renewed for season two.

George R.R. Martin and the team behind House of the Dragon have been talking about future seasons for months. There had been mentions of severed heads being added to the budget for season 2 and dragons that wouldn’t be unveiled until later seasons, but HBO had stayed silent on whether or not House of the Dragon would actually be returning for future seasons.

After the record-breaking viewership of Sunday’s premiere, and more than 20 million views through on-demand and HBO Max, HBO has officially announced that they will be bringing the show back for a season 2.

In the statement announcing the renewal of the show, Francesca Orsi the executive vice president of HBO programming said “We are beyond proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with season 1. Our phenomenal cast and crew undertook a massive challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as must-see TV. A huge thank you to George, Ryan, and Miguel for leading us on this journey. We couldn't be more excited to continue bringing to life the epic saga of House Targaryen with season 2.”

All-new episodes of House of The Dragon will air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and will stream on the same day and time on HBO Max.
