There has been recent chatter around the upcoming Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum movie, especially when it comes to casting. During Warner Bros CinemaCon presentation, they revealed the long-awaited casting announcement.

One of the most anticipated and talked about characters in this movie is Aragorn, or Strider. It has been revealed that Jamie Dornan has been cast to play the ranger, originally played by Viggo Mortensen in the trilogy. Andy Serkis had previously confirmed that the role of Aragorn would be played by someone new. Leo Woodall will play Halvard, another ranger who will join Aragorn on the hunt.

Lee Pace is also returning to the role of Thranduil, whom he first portrayed in The Hobbit trilogy. Kate Winslet is joining the franchise as a new addition. Elijah Wood is back as Frodo, and Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf. Andy Serkis will reprise his role of Gollum, while also directing the film.

The Hunt for Gollum takes place between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, where Aragorn and Gandalf take up a search for Gollum to learn more about Bilbo’s ring.

The film is set to release in theaters on December 17, 2027.
