Lin-Manuel Miranda Announces 'Octet' Cast Featuring Some Very Big Names

Play that sweet, sweet music! Lin-Manuel Miranda has confirmed the cast of his upcoming film adaptation of the musical, Octet! Miranda confirmed the cast on his Instagram account.

The immensely stacked cast will consist of Amanda Seyfried as Jessica, Rachel Zegler as Velma, Sheryl Lee Ralph as Paula, Phillipa Soo as Karly, Gaten Matarazzo as Toby, Jonathan Groff as Henry, Tramell Tillman as Marvin, and Paul-Jordan Jansen as Ed. His sophomore feature, following 2021’s Tick, Tick… BOOM! Miranda will direct the film, while original musical writer and lyricist, David Malloy, will write the screenplay and executive produce.

Amanda Seyfried recently delivered one of her most acclaimed performances in Mona Fastvold’s musical drama, The Testament of Ann Lee. She is also known for her work in Mean Girls, Mamma Mia!, Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Misérables, and David Fincher’s Mank, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Rachel Zegler is best known for her role as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed adaptation of West Side Story, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Even though her recent movies haven't been as well-received, Zegler's stage career, which kicked off in 2024, has garnered more praise. A prominent character actress of stage and screen, Sheryl Lee Ralph is best known for roles as Deena Jones in the original Broadway run of Dreamgirls, which earned her a Tony nomination, and Barbara Howard in the ABC sitcom Abbot Elementary, which won her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2022.

Paul-Jordan Jansen is best known for his appearances in the Broadway musicals & Juliet and The Prince of Egypt.
