An Emmy-nominated actress is heading to the big screen! Deadline has confirmed that Maya Erksine will make her feature directorial debut with a new teen comedy for A24. Emma Stone will produce via her Fruit Tree production company.
Erksine is best known for starring in, writing, co-creating, and co-showrunning the Hulu comedy series Pen15, which earned her three Emmy nominations across its two seasons. She’s also known for her role as Jane Smith in Donald Glover’s television adaptation of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Maya Erksine’s other prominent credits include Mikki in Betas, Maggie in Man Seeking Woman, Diane Nakamura in Insecure, Sully Stark in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Mizu in the Emmy-winning animated series Blue Eyed Samurai.
While she’s best known as an actress, Emma Stone has raised her profile as a producer this decade. Alongside her husband, Brigsby Bear director Dave McCary, they’ve produced a handful of films since 2023. So far, their Fruit Tree production banner has developed the Jessie Eisenberg films When You’re Finished Saving the World and A Real Pain, Jane Schoenbrun’s acclaimed horror film I Saw the TV Glow, Julio Torres’ directorial debut Problemista, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Oscar-winning film Poor Things and his recent effort Bugonia, both of which Stone starred in. All these movies (with the exception of Lanthimos’ efforts) were distributed by A24, which will also distribute Maya Erksine’s film. Other films in the pipeline include a currently untitled musical directed by Jessie Eisenberg, Emily Mortimer’s feature directorial debut Dennis, and Nathan Felder’s feature directorial debut Checkmate.
