Jimmy Olsen 'Superman' Spin-Off TV Show Tap 'American Vandal' Creators To Helm

It seems that the Jimmy Olsen-focused spin off from Superman is moving ahead quickly.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the creative duo of Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda would write, executive produce, and showrun the project, with Skyler Gisondo reprising his role as Olson. The show’s format is unclear, but as Perrault and Yacenda created the mockumentaries American Vandal and Players, it would seem likely the project will follow a similar premise. Both series were also comedic, though Perrault also wrote the R-rated film Strays, perhaps suggesting a less all-ages approach would be in the cards.
The DCU show’s focus would be on Olsen as well as Daily Planet reporters as they report on various events involving super-powered villains. Gorilla Grodd, the super-intelligent gorilla who was originally a Flash villain, is apparently getting the spotlight in the show’s first season. His major role would certainly fit with the old Jimmy Olsen comics that saw the young man repeatedly fall into strange circumstances with a range of heroes and villains beyond just Superman’s rogue’s gallery.
In addition to Perrault and Yacenda, James Gunn and Peter Safran would executive produce the series while Galen Vaisman would oversee things for DC. There is currently no news on possible release dates or even release years, but given how quickly it is coming together, we should expect more news quite soon.
