The search for Brainiac is over. James Gunn has found the villain for his next Superman movie Man of Tomorrow. Lars Eidinger, a European actor known for his roles in Clouds of Sil Maria, Personal Shopper, Jay Kelly, and White Noise, will take on the role of Brainiac. Brainiac debuted in Action Comics #242. He is an android from Colu with a mission to collect all knowledge in the universe. In the comics, Brainiac used a shrink ray to shrink Metropolis and add it to his collection of miniature alien cities.

The only knowledge we have about the story of Man of Tomorrow is that Superman, played by David Corenswet, and Luther, played by Nicholas Hoult, will join forces to face a new threat to the galaxy. That threat is almost certainly Brainiac. Gunn shared the news on Instagram. He wrote, “In our worldwide search for Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow, Lars Eidinger rose to the top. Welcome to the DCU, Lars.” Last year, Eidinger had the honor of being nominated for Best Actor in the European Film Awards for his role in Dying. Man of Tomorrow is set to begin production in April of next year with a scheduled theatrical release on July 9, 2027.
