A post from James Gunn has DC fans speculating about the next Superman villain in the follow-up to 2025’s film. The post revealed a script page with an image of an X-ray vision of a person’s brain. Some fans assumed the photo was referencing Brainiac. Gunn offered only this cagey reply, “Listen, of course I wasn’t unaware that when I posted the cover of the script that there was going to be discussion around that particular topic. But I’ll think we’ll hold off from what exactly is happening. While details around that particular character’s role, if any, in the new DC universe are kept under wraps, Gunn did reveal more of the idea behind the Superman sequel.
The director confirmed that David Corenswet (Superman) and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) would return in Man of Tomorrow. Gunn also clarified that certain elements from the Peacemaker series would carry over into the film, such as the relationship between the two. He described the film as “a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat.” Gunn continued, “It's more complicated than that, but that's a big part of it. It's as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much.” Man of Tomorrow lands in theaters on July 9, 2027, with production set to begin in the spring of 2026.
