News originally broke earlier this year that Scott Cawthon’s popular video game franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s was being turned into a live-action film by Blumhouse. The film has now secured two of its stars. Matthew Lillard, who is known for his roles in Scooby Doo, Good Girls, and Scream, has officially signed onto the project. Joining Lillard is Josh Hutcherson, who is most known for his role in The Hunger Games franchise. Despite rumors circulating across social media as to who the two will play in the film, their exact roles have not yet been confirmed.

While the rest of the cast is currently unknown, we do know that the film will be directed by Emma Tammi, who made her feature-length directorial debut in 2018 with the horror western The Wind. Tammi is also listed alongside Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback as writers of the film. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is slated to bring the iconic animatronics to life. The film will be produced by Blumhouse in association with Striker Entertainment. Jason Blum and Scott Cawthon are also listed as producers on the project, with Russell Binder listed as executive producer.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a popular horror video game that follows a security guard who takes a job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The location resembles that of a Chuck E. Cheese, except at night, the lovable animatronics come to life and turn the restaurant into a terror-filled nightmare for anyone unlucky enough to find themselves inside.

Production is slated to begin early next year in New Orleans.
