Michael Jackson has set a new record as the first and only artist to have a Top 10 single on Billboard’s Hot 100 in six different decades. The King of Pop extended his legacy when Thriller re-entered the Top 10 for the first time since 1984, when it peaked at #4. Thriller received a boost due to Halloween and the release of the trailer for Jackson’s biopic, Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua. Jackson’s biopic stars his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, and will be released on April 24, 2026. The official trailer went viral nearly instantly, amassing over 100 million views so far. The Michael teaser has become the most-viewed music biopic trailer ever, with 116.2 million views in its first 24 hours, surpassing Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour”, which amassed 96.1 million views in 24 hours.
Michael will chronicle the journey of the superstar from childhood to a star in his own right, who continues to dazzle listeners with his vocals posthumously. Apart from Jackson’s vocals, his sense of fashion and incomparable dancing skills have captivated audiences for over six decades, with fans all over the world able to identify him by his voice and “moon walk”. With his upcoming biopic, Jackson’s musical career will receive increased attention, and fans can only imagine what it would’ve done for his stardom if he were alive. While Thriller is known as the ultimate Halloween trendsetter, other Michael Jackson hits may also reach the top 100, thanks to growing interest in his work. Over his career, Jackson had a whopping 30 top 10 hits and 13 number 1 songs. It may be decades before any artist can break Jackson’s record of reaching the Billboard Top 10 in six different decades, making this milestone in his resume particularly notable.
