Well, this was always bound to happen.

Not content with letting the male public domain characters have all of the fun, the executive producers of Blood and Honey, Stuart Alson and Nicole Holland, are making a Minnie Mouse slasher film called Minnie’s Midnight Massacre. Despite the producers, this doesn’t appear to be a part of the Twisted Childhood Universe from which films like Blood and Honey, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, and Bambi: The Reckoning come. According to Deadline, the film “sees Steamboat Willie’s first mate, Minnie, go on a killing spree when seeking revenge against the childhood bullies who tortured her as a teenager.” You know, typical slasher stuff. (Would it kill, no pun intended, one of these films to try something new beyond “look, it’s that character I grew up watching!”?)

In any case, just from the description and picture, it appears that the film is going the “person in a cheap Spirit Halloween mask” route, instead of “look, Minnie Mouse is killing people!” route. Probably for the best, though that begs the question of why make the character Minnie Mouse in the first place, instead of a new character.

The answer, of course, is name recognition and cashing in on the current slasher trend.

So far we don’t have much more to go off of, beyond one picture and knowing that filming as wrapped. So far there is no release date, and no indication of how the film will be released.

I will most likely not, however, be watching it with my Minnie Mouse-obsessed daughter.
