'The Alters' Translation Seems To Have Used GenAI As Bot Response Appears In Game

Survival game The Alters, developed by 11 Bit Studios, appears to have made a mistake. Evidence has appeared that at least some of the writing in the game has been made by generative AI, and social media is sharing it. One such evidence was found by Hector De Paola, co-founder and editor of the gaming site Overloadr. He found Portuguese text that, when translated to English, reads: “Sure! The text translated to Brazilian Portuguese is: Every conversation two people can have, right?” Another user on Bluesky has found text on a screen reading: “Sure, here's a revised version focusing purely on scientific and astronomical data.”
Some players also believe that certain art assets were made with GenAI. One blue sky post by Daniel Wynter reads “Well that's disappointing. What the fuck is it with studios thinking AI is fine *only* for the icons. If they're not important, why have them at all. If they're important then PAY YOUR ARTISTS!” while showing an icon that appears to have been generated. 11 Bit Studios has not responded to these posts, and has not confirmed or denied any usage of GenAI in their game. Any further information will be found on our site in the future.
