It looks like the Fast and Furious franchise has at least one more lap around the track, as Vin Diesel recently teased plans for the next installment. Originally, Fast X was set to be a two-part finale, but Diesel’s comments suggest that the next movie will take a different, yet familiar, approach to the long-running series. The movies have evolved from its roots as racing films, to major heists and almost superhero movie levels with the spinoff Hobbs and Shaw. Now, it appears as though Diesel wants to take the franchise back to its roots.
During his appearance at Fuel Fest, Vin Diesel announced to the crowd his terms for returning to the final Fast and Furious film: “The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of ‘Fast and Furious’ [in] April 2027? I said, ‘Under three conditions.’ First, is to bring the franchise back to L.A.! The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing! The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner.”
Long-time fans will likely be elated to hear of the return to form for the finale, but the return of Brian O’Conner will likely be a confusing concept until its release. The character was retired after the seventh movie, following the death of actor Paul Walker. His brother, Cody Walker, was at the event in which Diesel revealed these plans, so it is possible that he could be resurrecting the character. Cody Walker briefly played O’Conner in Fast and Furious 7 for the send-off to the character. How this will be handled is yet to be scene, but keep up to date with CultureSlate for your movie news.
