The future of one of DC’s most anticipated sequels is no longer in limbo, as Matt Reeves reveals he has finished the script for The Batman Part II. The first film, starring Robert Pattinson, was a smash success, which led to much anticipation for the follow-up. Unfortunately, the film was announced to be delayed from its original 2025 release date to 2027, citing issues with the script. This led much of the internet to speculate as to whether or not the film would go forward.

On June 27th, those speculations were put to rest as Matt Reeves shared a picture on Instagram of him and co-writer Mattson Tomlinson posing with the finished script for The Batman Part II. The cover page of the script was blurred out, but one can clearly make out the title, along with the authors’ names. What lies below that is a little more obscured. Comments on the post are overwhelmingly positive as fans rejoice in the confirmation that the project will be going forward.

These comments will likely satisfy James Gunn, who told Entertainment Weekly earlier this week how irritated he’s been with the amount of rumors and bashing that Reeves has received for the long wait for the script. He assured fans that he would be receiving the script this month and to be patient with the director. As this news drops, Gunn is ramping up for the release of his new Superman movie, set to release July 11th in theaters. While Superman will be a reboot of the DC cinematic universe, The Batman Part II will remain in its own continuity. For all DC news, be sure to keep up to date with CultureSlate.
