If you’re frustrated over how long The Batman Part 2 is taking to finish, James Gunn doesn’t want to hear about it. In an age of cinematic universes, comic book film fans have become accustomed to quick turnaround on sequels to fit the narrative. Therefore, the continued delays of Matt Reeves’ follow-up to his smash hit The Batman has left many fans disappointed. The sequel was announced to be delayed until 2026, citing issues with the script. A point that Gunn is still defending against the outcry over the decision.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn stressed that the sequel was still going ahead regardless of what rumors may appear online. He told them, “Listen, we’re supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. People should get off Matt’s nuts because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That’s just the way it is. He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.”

Gunn’s frustration extended to the constant debunking of rumors that pop up online. It used to be that if you needed to know whether or not a rumor was true, he would be the first to give a solid answer. Now, Gunn’s revealed he’s “mostly quit” debunking rumors because the spread of false rumors “just happens so often,” and he doesn’t want to keep “giving them traffic.” While James Gunn may be done fighting rumors, his iteration of the Man of Steel is getting ready to fight the likes of Lex Luthor and Brainiac in his upcoming film, Superman, set to reboot the DC cinematic universe.
