Concept art from the long-forgotten game meant to follow Batman: Arkham Knight resurfaced online this week. The game was originally scheduled to release in 2015 before it was cancelled, and Warner Bros. and WB Games Montreal turned their attention to creating and developing 2022’s Gotham Knights. The cancelled project would have focussed on Damian taking up the Batman mantle under the guidance of an aged-up Bruce Wayne. The concept art contained renderings of Damian, a bearded Bruce Wayne, Killer Croc, and Huntress. Back in 2021, concept art from the cancelled game featured Damian in his Batsuit as well as a costumed Bruce Wayne, indicating that the hero would step out of retirement at some point during the game’s story.

In December 2024, WB Games Montreal cut 100 jobs with both Gotham Knights and the Rocksteady game Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League that they helped developed both underperforming. The departure of David Haddad from Warner Bros. Games along with the closure of Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego shifted the leadership and the company’s focus. However, there is still a single-player Batman game in development from the company. The rest of their energy will be spent on games based on the worlds of Mortal Kombat, DC, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones.
