The devil… still… wears Prada. The modern classic ended its run in theaters with $326 million at the box office, an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Costume Design, and scored Meryl Streep an Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. Now, nearly two decades after the original’s release, a sequel is set to begin filming in New York and Italy.

This follow-up will bring back all the major players: Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. The plot hasn’t been confirmed, but will reportedly follow Miranda Priestly (Streep) navigating the changing landscape of publishing amidst the decline of physical journalism, as she contends with her former assistant, turned rival, Emily Charlton (Blunt). How Hathaway’s character will fit into the story is currently unreported. Kenneth Branagh will also join the cast as the husband of Blunt’s character. David Frankel will return as director.

The sequel was announced yesterday with a post on social media that added a second high heel to the iconic design from the original poster. So far, that post has amassed over a million likes with overwhelmingly positive comments. Whether or not this sequel will live up to the original will have to be seen when it releases in theaters on May 1st, 2026.
