Eight years ago, Bethesda walked out onto the stage at one of the last E3s, and Todd Howard announced the next game in the fan favorite Elder Scrolls franchise, Elder Scrolls VI. No name, just the words and a scenic landscape. Now, after a tumultuous couple of years for the industry, Xbox’s acquisition of Bethesda, and some major moves with the gaming giant, Bethesda has finally revealed the name of the next game and given us a teaser trailer.

There’s not much to it, it is just a teaser, but its the bare minimum of a teaser. With the rhythmic pounding of drums, we are treated to a sand dune that slowly erodes under the wind, revealing an elaborately decorated scroll. It then cuts to the title, revealing that Elder Scrolls VI will be subtitled Sentinel. Then, the trailer ends with a quote about the Elder Scrolls from the in-world lore.

RELATED:

For those who are uninitiated, Sentinel likely refers to the port city of the same name, within the nine kingdoms of Hammerfell, one of the regions of Tamriel. It overlooks Iliac Bay. Hammerfell lays to the southwest of the previous game’s location, Skyrim, and due west of Elder Scrolls IV’s location of Cyrodil. The region includes a large desert, likely what the sand dune in the trailer alludes to, and is home to the Redguard, one of the many playable races of Tamriel.

No date is listed, and recent online chatter suggests it is still some years off.
