Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the first trailer for Project Hail Mary. Based on a New York Times best-selling novel by Andy Weir, this film adaptation is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with Ryan Gosling starring in the main role of Ryland Grace.
A teacher at Grover Cleveland Middle School, Grace is sent on a mission to the stars as the only person who could stop an infection plaguing those stars. An infection that causes stars to die. All stars except one are becoming infected, with Grace determining the mystery of why. 11.9 lightyears from home with no backup to call on, the extinction of humanity is on the shoulders of Grace.
The trailer shows this premise, while also revealing the mystery of what Grace finds out in the Tau Ceti solar system. Though it seems the interactions with that mystery will play a big part in the film, so maybe not as big of a spoiler as some might imagine. Along with Gosling, the film will feature Lionel Boyce, Milana Vayntrub, Sandra Hüller, and Ken Leung. Project Hail Mary will release on March 20, 2026, in theatres, including IMAX screens.
Project Hail Mary is not the only adaptation of an Andy Weir novel that Lord and Miller are working on, with Artemis also having their name attached to direct. The two will also work with Weir on an as-yet-unnamed project.
