'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Gets Theatrical Re-Release For 35th Anniversary

The Heroes in a Half Shell are coming back to theaters at the end of this summer in a special anniversary celebration. On August 17 and 20, 2025, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) will be returning to select theaters in honor of the film’s 35th anniversary. Fathom Entertainment, a company that regularly presents special theatrical screenings of various films, is the distributor of this event. Theaters showing the film near you can be found on Fathom’s website, and tickets can be found on Fandango.

It’s not just a showing of the film; there’s a special featurette being shown ahead of the movie as well!  Fathom gave a description of what to expect, “In the “Turtles Unmasked” featurette before the movie, produced in collaboration with the creators of TMNT: Evolution, Mutation & Reboot, experience never-before-seen footage from the archives, extended scenes left to history on the cutting room floor, home-recorded behind-the-scenes footage, and 1-on-1 time and commentary with Director Steve Barron, as he reflects on the day-to-day in crafting the absolute best version of Turtles brought to the big screen.” Plenty of exciting, exclusive content is being packed into this experience!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was first released on March 30, 1990. It performed impressively at the box office of that time, pulling in over $25.39 million during the film’s opening weekend, and $135.26 million overall; these numbers cemented it as the top-performing independent film at the time. The turtle costumes for the film were developed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. The film’s cast includes James Saito as Shredder, Judith Hoag as April O’Neil, and Elias Koteas as Casey Jones, as well as voice actors Kevin Clash as Splinter, Brian Tochi as Leonardo, Corey Feldman as Donatello, Robbie Rist as Michelangelo, and Josh Pais as Raphael.
