Kit Connor Gets The Cyclops Role For New 'X-Men' Movie

Kit Connor made waves with the Netflix series Heartstopper and the movie Heartstopper Forever. Now he’s following his co-star Joe Locke to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Locke played Wiccan in the WandaVision spin-off Agatha All Along. Now, Connor has been recruited to play Cyclops, also known as Scott Summers, in Marvel’s new X-Men project. In their more recent projects, Marvel has dropped hints about both the X-Men and the Young Avengers, so there’s a chance the two co-stars will be reunited in a future project. Connor will be the third actor to portray Cyclops in live-action. The role was previously held by James Marsden in the 2000s and by Tye Sheridan from 2010 onward. Marsden will reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday, which leaves fans wondering how Connor becomes Cyclops. 

This wouldn’t be the first time Marvel passes a mantle. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) takes over the role of Captain America from Steve Rogers (Chris Wilson). There’s also the possibility of multiverse shenanigans leading to variants of the different X-Men members. Cyclops debuted in 1967 comic The X-Men, and quickly became a leader of the team. His power involves shooting powerful energy beams from his eyes, leading him to use special sunglasses and visors to prevent his team from being vaporized. The film recently recruited Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, there’s a good chance that Sadie Sink will join the team. Jake Schreier is directing the project, but the plot is being kept tightly under wraps.
