The much-anticipated reboot Beetlejuice 2 has had another casting announcement, Italian actress Monica Bellucci (The Matrix films, The Passion of The Christ, Mafia Mamma) has been cast as Beetlejuice’s wife. Many of the members of the original 1988 movie have signed on to the new movie including Michael Keaton (Batman, The Flash), Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek, The Nightmare Before Christmas), and Winona Ryder (Stranger Things, Heathers), who will reprise her role as Lydia Deetz. It’s no surprise that Jenny Ortega (Scream, The Fallout) will be playing Lydia’s daughter after her strong performance on Wednesday made her a must-have for the horror genre.

Bellucci has been working in the Italian film industry since 1990 but quickly was able to break through to Hollywood, landing a key role in Bram Stoker’s Dracula directed by the legendary Francis Ford Coppola. She is highly experienced and will be able to stand up against heavy hitters such as Willem Dafoe (Spiderman, American Psycho) who are also set to appear on the roster.

We’ve got a long time to wait before we see Monica in action, as production on Beetlejuice 2 has only just begun, with the release expected on 6th September 2024.

If you can’t wait until then, Beetlejuice is currently available for streaming on Prime Video
