Netflix has announced that there has been progress on their long-awaited Assassin’s Creed series. Hints were dropped on the project over five years ago, but they’ve now signed a creative team, and it’s got real promise.
David Wiener will be partnering with Roberto Patino to bring the Brotherhood to the screen. David Wiener has experience adapting video games as he was the showrunner of the recent Halo series. Patino has a string of hits under his belt, such as DMZ, Westworld, and Sons of Anarchy. This is an exciting pairing.
There’s no word on which of the Assassin’s Creed games Netflix will be focusing on, as there is a wealth of story arcs and characters that they could look at. This isn’t the first live-action adaptation; the 2016 Michael Fassbender movie was widely panned. Fans of Assassin’s Creed will be hoping that Netflix can use what they’ve learned developing their other computer gaming series (such as Arcane) and avoid another flop. This latest news is certainly optimistic.
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s vice president of scripted series, said in a recent interview,
“The team has carefully crafted an epic adventure that both honors the legacy of the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ franchise and invites longtime fans and newcomers alike to experience the thrill of the Brotherhood as never before.”
